It is an undeniable fact that Europe is abundant with diversity, and that this picture is constantly evolving and changing. Nowadays, many people are relocating for various reasons. As humans we have the need to communicate, to dialogue, to engage in conversation, and to connect with each others. To start to understand and embrace each other, and find a common solution for a successful way of living together, we need to be able to learn about and from each other, break our prejudices and illusions, explore what we don’t know instead of being afraid of it. To find out new things, discover each other’s cultural background, share some content of our “cultural suitcases”. All of this so we can have a better future together, in a safe environment where different cultures can coexist and develop freely.
Sport is a universal element in all cultures. When it comes to intercultural learning in non formal education today, these traditional games can be utilized as a tool for promotion of multiculturalism, and as a thread that binds all youngsters from different countries of Europe and different cultural backgrounds. These games could open new doors for cultivating the links among youngsters no matter where they are from. This is an opportunity that through fun, we learn from one another, adopt new things, and develop new knowledge about others, who are different, but maybe not as different as we thought.
- To foster mutual understanding between young people in different countries
- To make young people aware about the cultural differences of Europe and also to create a space where they can bring and share their cultural identity and cultural heritage.
- To promote intercultural learning among participants with different cultural backgrounds and different traditions
- To promote respect for the diversity of cultural expressions and raise awareness of its value
- To collect traditional games and save this cultural heritage for coming generations
