Lets play; Back to tradition

The youth exchange Let’s Play; Back to Tradition gathered young people from Germany, Serbia, Turkey, Croatia, Norway, Estonia, and Sweden to explore the value of cultural heritage through traditional games and intercultural learning.

Cultural diversity is the result of centuries of human interaction, traditions, and ways of life. Preserving this heritage and sharing it with others helps us build understanding, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence. This exchange gave participants the opportunity to discover each other’s cultural backgrounds, challenge prejudices, and learn together in a fun and interactive way.

Objectives

The project aimed to:

  • Foster mutual understanding between young people from different countries

  • Create a safe space for sharing cultural identity and heritage

  • Promote intercultural learning and respect for diversity

  • Strengthen tolerance and solidarity among participants

  • Collect and document traditional games as a contribution to cultural preservation

  • Publish a brochure of all games presented during the exchange

Participants

Each partner country sent 4 young people (18–25 years old) and 1 experienced youth worker. Together they formed a diverse group that worked, played, and learned side by side for 10 days in Serbia.

Venue

The activities took place at the Suplja Stena Children’s Resort on Avala Mountain, near Belgrade. Surrounded by nature, it offered a relaxed and inspiring environment where participants could focus on cultural discovery, teamwork, and community building.

Support and Funding

The youth exchange was co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union. Accommodation, meals, activities, and travel reimbursements were provided for all participants in line with Erasmus+ guidelines.

Impact

Let’s Play; Back to Tradition encouraged participants to appreciate cultural diversity, develop friendships across borders, and strengthen intercultural dialogue through play. By collecting traditional games and sharing them in a brochure, the project created a lasting resource that preserves cultural heritage for future generations.
