The Power of Knowledge 2020 project recognizes the vital role that coaches and sports workers play in shaping the lives of young people. Alongside parents, they form the “Sports Triangle” of Trainer – Athlete – Parent, guiding not only athletic performance but also the personal, social, and psychological development of youth.
Through sport, trainers teach much more than tactics and techniques, they nurture cooperation, resilience, leadership, and problem-solving. This project puts the spotlight on trainers as key educators in school and recreational sports, ensuring they have the tools, methods, and support to positively influence the next generation.
The project aligns with the Erasmus+ Sport Programme and aims to:
Promote education in and through sport with a focus on skill development
Strengthen cooperation between sports organizations, NGOs, and academic institutions
Share good practices and innovative methods in youth sports
Build the capacities of trainers working with children and young athletes
Over the course of 2020–2021, the project brought together NGOs, a sports club, and the Faculty of Sport in Belgrade through a series of international meetings, working sessions, and roundtables.
Key outputs:
Research reports and studies exploring training methods, leadership, and communication in sports
Handbook for Trainers, a practical guide with methods for school and recreational sports, translated into several EU languages
Good practice guides and case studies collected from roundtables with trainers, psychologists, youth workers, and athletes
The project included 8 international meetings hosted across Serbia, Estonia, Germany, and Croatia. Topics ranged from training styles and learning methods to leadership in sport, communication, positive approaches in training, and developing personal training philosophies.
Two major roundtables at the Faculty of Sport in Belgrade gathered diverse stakeholders to discuss long-term sports development and training philosophies, ensuring broad impact and knowledge exchange.
To maximize visibility and impact, the project invested in:
A dedicated project website and social media presence
Publications: handbooks, research reports, and roundtable outcomes
Promotional materials: logo, flyers, posters, and newsletters
Contributions to the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform
All materials carried the Erasmus+ logo, highlighting that the project was co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union.
Power of Knowledge – 2020 contributes to the development of school and recreational sports by:
Enhancing the knowledge and skills of trainers and sports workers
Encouraging innovation in non-formal education
Creating sustainable tools and resources for future generations
Strengthening networks of cooperation among NGOs, sports clubs, and universities across Europe
This project proves that when trainers are empowered, young people thrive – both in sport and in life.
